Beware of Crap!
Ladies, I kid you not. This is what you’ll get if you dip your feet into crappy shoes: blisters, bruises, black toe nails and bunions. Been there, done that. Trust me, it’s not worth the trouble.

Back in the days I used to waste my money on cheap junk. It took me almost 30 years to understand that the size of my wardrobe or the number of shoes I own doesn’t necessarily make me look good. On the contrary, can you imagine how I must have looked, limping the streets in my shoes made of man-made materials!?
Please, do yourself – and your feet, for example – a favour. Join the ever so lovely and quick-witted Sugar Kane of (swim)suit issues, me and a great bunch of other style-conscious groovy cats and steer clear of crap. It’s quite simple, really. Instead of buying something small and meaningless every week, why not saving for something you have coveted for ages. My shopping list includes a pair of Minna Parikka shoes.
What’s on your list?
P.S. If you’re a Finn, you can read Sugar Kane’s inspiring post about the subject. Conscious consumerism rulez!

Blogging With a Purpose

FinnFlair received a Blogging with a Purpose batch from Mari Koo of Kulutusjuhla. This kind recognition is really meaningful for me as I have been a regular reader of Kulutusjuhla as well as Mari Koo’s other blogs for ages. Thank you, Mari!
These two wonderful women also blog with a purpose, and their witty posts have challenged me to see things differently:
tricia of bits & bobbins
Vasiliisa of the Suburban Queen
Hats off to you, ladies!

You Make My Day Award

Sweet and charming Dolce Vita totally surprised me by giving this kind recognition: You make my day award.
Give the award to 10 people whose blogs bring you happiness and inspiration and make you feel happy about blogland. Let them know by posting a comment on their blog so they can pass it on. Beware you may get the award several times.
I read dozens of blogs daily and most of my blogroll’s great blogs have already received this award. However, at the risk of multiple awards, I want to pass this one on to blogs I find very inspiring. What more can I say: These women are true style queens and they have an eye for great vintage items!

Seven Things About Me

- From all the numbers I like number 7 the best. I was born on the 7th, in the 70’s, at 7 o’clock. I’d like to think I’m not superstitious but for some reason number 7 has played a significant part in my life.
- I like to keep things organized: my cd’s are in alphabetical order, books are sorted by their language and size, my clothes by colour and so on. Naturally, I have one extremely messy and disorganized mystery drawer which is the exception that makes the rule.
- I think my hands and my eyes are the most charming parts of my body.
- I believe I know people although I’m not much of a people person. In most cases my first impression of someone is frighteningly accurate. Maybe this specific personal characteristic was the reason why I considered professions such as profiler, psychologist and dramaturge as my possible career choices after my matriculation.
- I’m a MA of Arts. Currently I work in journalism but I’m very much into research. My life will change remarkably within a few weeks when I’m going freelance. I’m a tad nervous of this change, yes, but also extremely excited.
- I live and breathe popular culture. I couldn’t imagine my life without music, movies, magazines and television.
- However, I have never watched a single episode of Big Brother or American Idol. In fact, I can’t really watch reality television shows because of unbearable feelings of sheer mortification.
I got tagged by The Seeker and I should pass this meme on. There are some regular readers from Brisbane, Göteborg, Istanbul, Madrid, Rovaniemi, San Diego and Tilburg. If you have your own blog, whisk me a note after you have told seven things about yourself, and you will be properly linked on my blog. Cheers!

Fabulous Four
Jenni from Pupulandia remembered me with a challenge. The trick is to answer to four blogging related questions below and then challenge four other bloggers to do the same. Ok, here we go.
1. What’s the story behind the name of your blog and your nickname?
Umm. I have always been interested in Finnish design and style, especially design glass, jewellery, fabric and furniture. At first I thought I would set up a blog that introduces Finnish design items in English. I wanted both the domain and the blog’s name to be the same so I thought something that would reflect my Grand Idea: Finn is obvious I guess, and Flair meaning distinctive and stylish elegance. My idea seemed great at that time so I went and bought this domain and bribed my hubby to set me up a publishing system.
And my nickname? As boring as it might be, I use the name my parents so unimaginatively gave me when I was born (Sanna was the most common girl’s name in Finland in that year, I’ve heard).
2. Why did you start blogging in the first place?
Like my frequent readers have prolly noticed, this blog has nothing to do with Finnish design. After buying finnflair.com domain I realised I really didn’t have enough knowledge or time to commit myself to that kind of blog. I was in between three or four demanding jobs that took almost all my time and I was a human wreck. But I badly wanted to write something in English although sometimes it’s real pain in the bum.
At the same time when wrestling with the whole blogging dilemma, me and my hubby moved. After finishing packing and unpacking dozens of boxes of clothes and accessories I realised that I might have a problem with shopping. I did a little online research and I noticed some people had so called wardrobe inventory blogs. This was something I wanted to do as well. And this is exactly what I did but naturally my interests have expanded since the very beginning of this blog.
3. What has been your best blogging related experience? What about the worst?
I honestly can’t name only one great blogging related experience. There are several. Personally, although I know my English is far from decent, I enjoy writing in other language than my mother tongue. I also think that in many cases comments bring more substance and depth to the entry I wrote and therefore I would like to encourage my readers to leave more comments. I know some Finns don’t feel comfortable communicating in English especially when they know I’m a Finn but hey, nobody’s perfect and we have a very friendly and non-judgemental community over here. I’m also very happy that having this blog has IRL changed a wee bit my consumption habits and I have found several like-minded bloggers.
And the worst blogging related experience? A constant guilty conscious meaning that I feel I don’t put enough effort to this blog.
4. What do you think will happen to your blog in 2008?
I will keep blogging and there will be more vintage and recycling related articles coming, me thinks. I plan to sell some authentic vintage pieces via this blog during early 2008 because we’re moving again. And – surprise surprise – I think it’s time for more personal photos as well.

I pass this challenge over to four fabulous bloggers: Bigglassesgirl, Ranna, the Grey and Vasiliisa.
