Wedding Whirl

I’m so excited! The date is finally set for my dear friend’s wedding, and I can’t wait to be witness to her great day in August. As amazing as the wedding itself is, it’s also a wonderful occasion to get all dressed up and festive. It has been ages since I attended any dressier fête, and I have already started to ponder how to dress for a wedding.
At first I thought I’d go for the beautiful Dalamin dress by InWear I bought for my graduation. The dress is made of silk, and it has nice pin-up feel to it. I could easily create some vampy spin around it sporting a look à la Henry & June (think about Uma Thurman and Maria de Medeiros in that movie and you’ll get the idea), but would that be a tad heavy look for a summer wedding? Then it hit me that this might just be the occasion when I could justify myself buying that gorgeous Tiia Vanhatapio dress I have dreamed for ages. Maybe I should pay a visit to her new boutique in the coming days.
Tips for great dresses are warmly welcomed!

Vanhatapio sounds lovely! Or, perhaps something by Samu-Jussi Koski? I love them both. I personally would probably go with vintage tho. Actually not just would but will, as there’s at least one wedding coming up this summer.
I am not a huge fan of weddings per se, only because I always get so emotional that I get embarrased… But dressing up is the best part, and yes, that might sound awfully selfish, but there it is! I don’t get a chance to dress up too often, so every wedding is truly appreciated by my need to glam up! Anyway, I would probably wear something vintage as well, although the Vanhatapio pieces are lovely… I have been keeping my eye on that brocade skirt for the entire spring, but it is way too pricey for me…
Tiia Vanhatapio’s outfits look really charming. If I could recommend any brands that are great for wedding but not too-wedding-style (ie you can wear theire pieces for other occasions too) that would be English Whistles and Spanish Hoss Intropia. I love them but they are unfortunately mostly too expensive for my budget.
For inspiration look also “The Conformist” by Bertolucci – the style is a bit similar to “Henry & June”. I don’t remember very well but “Gosford Park” might also give you some ideas.
Anyway, whatever you’ll wear, enjoy the event :)
vasiliisa: Vanhatapio might be a wee bit out of my price range, but I just adore her designs. A big bash could definitely justify a slightly bigger investment, don’t you think. I’m not a fan of Samu-Jussi Koski, tho. I find his designs a tad too predictable (and don’t get me started with Marimekko’s quality).
I was thinking about going for vintage, but in order to find something special and other than polyester, you have to walk that extra mile or five.
The Waves: Oh, you ol’ softy, you! I tend to get all panicy when it comes to big bashes as I’m not any people person who likes to mingle with people and chew the fat. But you’re so right, the dressing up is definitely one of the best reasons to attend big parties.
Aeshetikophilos: Thanks a million for your excellent suggestions! I just watched Gosford Park the other day. Loved the dresses and the hair styles; that movie is definitely a great source of inspiration.
