Vintage Is Eco-Friendly Fashion

I swear by the name of vintage but for me vintage is not just a trendy style. Favouring vintage over high street brands is connected with thorough consideration of my daily consumer habits. Therefore wearing vintage can be seen as a part of my view of life and ethics.

Truly ecological fashion

Nowadays we can read from various mags about all those eco-friendly fashion choices made available for consumers. If we want to get on the eco bandwagon and still remain chic we have several options to choose from. We can favor organic cottons and other organic fabrics or we can purchase now so hip reusable fabric bag. And of course we can look our clothes with natural dyes in fabrics and so on.

But truly eco-friendly fashion choice is to wear vintage. Why? Because it is not only the most creative and individual choice around, it is now the most sensible way to reduce extreme consumption. Recycling your old clothes and wearing vintage clothes and accessories is not only a fashion statement, it is an ecological and philosophical statement as well. By wearing vintage you can help to save the planet!

I also like the idea that wearing vintage links me to those myriad of women who have been swapping clothing, crafting, reworking garments and buying at charity shops for decades before me. All these things are not against consumption per se. They’re against throwing things away.

Do you have some eco-friendly consumer habits?

Yeah I flipped trough it, but didn’t take much notice. I think it’s worth the price, there is much more worse things you could spend 15 euros to… Can’t remember if there were much pictures! There were some though.

    this looks exciting!

Cheers, Indie! I will definitely check out that book. And thanks for the other tip too. I googled Sandy Black and it seems she does academic research on crafting and fashion among the other things. Eco-chic looks very interesting book indeed but we’ll have to wait for it for quite some time yet.

Good post! Those are the reasons I favor vintage. It’s unique and eco-friendly, there is history.. and it’s exciting to look for things.. I do buy retail but I try to pick and choose carefully, only good quality pieces I’ll love forever and stuff that I can’t find second-hand.
