How to Make a Clichéd Fabric Shout Swanky

In my previous article I discussed about classic retro fabrics. Some might think bold and large-patterned graphic fabrics are so passé but I think there are ways to make clichéd fabrics shout swanky.
First of all, it’s always wise to keep other things pretty gentle and low-key when using daring and gutsy prints. The idea is not to recreate a replica of retro hell, quite the contrary. Think about functionalist and demure items next to brassy fabrics and you get the idea.
Second, if you think pompous curtains are a turn-off rather than an engaging thought, go for small potatoes. Spunky print can look extremely good as a fabric of decoration element. A pillowcase or a painting made of retro fabric can bring that extra oomph to your home.

Classic Marimekko designs are great as fabric panels.
And last but not least: be creative! There are numerous ways to use retro fabrics. A dirt cheap buy from flea market can look like a million bucks when thought out properly. Happy decorating!
