Confessions
- I don’t find runway fashion inspirational no matter how hard I try. Therefore I decided to de-clutter my feeds and remove all those sites that focus on fashion weeks, runways, fashion designers and the likes.
- Me and high street fashion = not in buddy terms either. Unlike one year ago or so, shopping for high street brands doesn’t make me tick anymore. Last week I popped in a couple of stores, and I came out utterly bored and uninspired.
- Call me naff, but I consider fashion fads such as pvc/leather leggings, harem pants and extra over-sized bags fugly.
- Despite the fact that the web is loaded with style and fashion blogs, it is relatively hard for me to find like-minded bloggers. Tips for witty thrifters and unique dressers are warmly welcomed.
- I just can’t wear colours. 99% of my wardrobe is black. Not grey, not brown or blue but black. Before I used to feel guilty about this, but now I try to think that what if this is my thing, the clou of my personal style.
- And yes, I’m either bowed down by the weather, or I have become apathetic. Wish it was spring already!

considering the first four points, we are on exactly the same page, so much so, that it’s kind of scary. i write a “fashion blog” per se, but it’s usually me musing upon this or that from a personal style perspective or dissecting fashion/style/design from a sort of acedemic point of view, not really focusing much on what’s trendy, what’s on the runway, and the like. i find that crap utterly boring and irrelevant, actually! hah.
blogs of a similar ilk are rather hard to find, i’ve found.
looking over my list of blogs on the ye olde RSS feed reader, i came across two you may like, which are both intelligent and non-trend/runway/designer focused:
http://www.thisismylab.com/
http://thesuburbanqueen.blogspot.com/
the latter of which may be one you already know (somehow i think i found your blog via her, a fellow finn).
best,
tricia
I can relate to a lot of this (you know which point doesn’t apply to me, hehe).
How about checking http://bookofmiri.blogg.se/
Miri has a great style and writes interesting posts too (most of us can use a Swedish brush-up too)
I will agree with you on runway fashion not being inspirational. I think street fashion and the day-to-day styles of people are what inspires me.
Ah, hyvin tuttuja ajatuksia, ainoastaan mustan värin ylivallasta vaatekaapissani minun täytyy olla eri mieltä. :)
Secretista summed up mainly everything I was about to say.
I don’t think you are alone! I like Ringo, have a banana! a lot.. I would also love to read more blogs written by uniquely stylish people.. With smart thoughts about personal style.. thrift finds and unexpected things.. Style in a more general way as opposed to just clothes. I’m waiting to see if you get more good recommendations!
tricia: Many thanks for stopping by! I’m a regular reader of your blog, and I just admire the amazing job you’ve done with wardrobe_remix.
And thanks for the links. Vasiliisa’s blog has been one of my favourites since I started this blog, and I will definitely check out that other one.
vasiliisa: I’ve been reading Miri’s blog for quite some time now, and I really enjoy her posts and her photos in particular. Btw, the tip you gave me the other day regarding colours has proven to be extremely inspirational, so many thanks for that!
Secretista: Amen to that! I just wish to find more blogs where fast fashion chains wouldn’t play too big part of the content of the blog.
Laura: I’m so happy that I found your blog. Nice writing, world view/ethics that I can relate to and beautiful images. Ever considered writing in English? Audience-wise this would be a smart move.
Unicorns have whiskers: Thanks a million for that link! Looks extremely promising.
I have had quite difficulties to find my own voice. At some point I thought I’d focus on “How to” posts, as I wasn’t so keen to write about myself, but things might have changed during the past three months or so. Still not sure where to go though.
Sanna, I am a bit apathetic recently as well, so you’re not alone. It’s raining all the time and weekends are the only time when I can be photographed in my clothes…
There is nothning wrong with wearing black, though I personally usually have to be in the mood for this colour (and yes, I think that black IS a colour and can have many different hues, depending on fabric, texture and cut).
With regards to high street – I like it but I’m very selective. Runway fashion bores me utterly.
Take care, let’s hope spring is just around the corner (even in Finland):)
Many thanks for your kind words, Aesthetikophilos! I was in Dublin in early February, and it was so warm and springy there. I really miss sunshine and warm breeze, but it seems us Finns have to keep our heads above water for a couple of more weeks.
Hang in there, and lets keep out fingers crossed for better and happier times!
God you made me blush. :)
Actually I considered writing in English when I created my blog, but then ended up in Finnish because I’m not that fond of my English skills and wouldn’t be that sure it would work out fine. I think I’ll have to wait and see how things will come along. But thanks for encouraging me! :)
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
I also agree with you. Sometimes it seems I’m reading the same blog twenty times over when I see the same runway show reviewed again and again on blog after blog. I prefer those that tend towards showing a more personal style and even an inside glimpse of their life and opinions, not just covering trends and high end designers. Many of my favorites are the ladies who’ve already commented above! More personal/lifestyle blogs with an injection of fashion, I suppose :)
